Junior Certificate

The Junior Cycle

The students begin a three year course of study as laid out by the Department of Education and Science. The school provides a broad and balanced course of study in a range of curricular areas. The examination subjects include English, Irish, Mathematics, French, Science, Business Studies, History, Geography, Technical Graphics, Engineering, Art, Music, Home Economics, C.S.P.E and Religious Education.  S.P.H.E and Physical Education are also important parts of the curriculum.

Students choose subjects in First Year for their Junior Certificate. To highlight the importance of academic achievement within the school, there are two sessions of examinations, the results of which are furnished to parents.

Students will take part in Curriculum Based Assessments in 2nd year and again in 3rd year for every subject. Some subjects have a project element to them, which will be completed in third year. Students will sit examinations in 3rd year as part of their Junior Certificate.
